Originally designed for the Hudson Hotel in New York City, the Hudson Collection is Philippe Starck’s update of the 1006 Navy® Chair, designed by Emeco in 1944. Hudson is made using the same 77-step process that Emeco perfected 70 years ago to satisfy the military’s need for lightweight, corrosion-resistant chairs for submarines. The company’s proprietary metal processing method yields aluminum three times stronger than steel – and a chair so durable that it has an estimated life span of 150 years. “Working with Emeco has allowed me to use a recycled material and transform it into something that never needs to be discarded – a tireless and unbreakable chair to enjoy for a lifetime,” says Starck. “It is a chair you never own, you just use it for a while until it is the next person’s turn.” The seat of the Hudson Task Chair swivels and tilts, and the pneumatic lift provides instant height adjustment. Hudson is included in the design collection at MoMA and received the 2000 Good Design Award from the Chicago Athenaeum. Hudson chairs and stools come with a lifetime guarantee. This is the authentic Hudson Chair by Emeco.
