Francisco Juan Barba Corsini‘s Pedrera Coffee Table

Spanish architect Francisco Juan Barba Corsini designed this table for what is now one of Barcelona’s most celebrated structures: Casa Milà, popularly known as La Pedrera, by Antoni Gaudí. The building, which was completed in 1912, has a sinuous stone facade reminiscent of an open quarry (la pedrera is Spanish for “the stone”), with twisting wrought iron balconies. In 1953, Corsini was the architect hired to transform the attic of Casa Milà into 13 modern apartments, for which he also designed a line of furniture also called La Pedrera. Similar to the building from which it takes styling cues, his Pedrera Coffee Table (1955) looks different from every angle. This table projects a powerful simplicity, with a profile that appears to change as you walk around it – the undulating up and down of its steel frame is quite special to behold.
